This course is designed to equip students with essential skills for exploring the Bible effectively and connecting the dots. It emphasizes the importance of understanding Scripture in its proper context, interpreting it accurately, and applying it meaningfully to everyday ife.
Level 1: Context
Examine the historical background of the passage, including the time period, culture, and events surrounding its writing
Identify the original audience and purpose of the text to grasp the author's intended meaning
Analyze the literary context, including the genre, structure, and themes of the book or section in which the passage appears
Level 2: Interpretation
Apply various methods to understand the text's plain meaning based on its grammatical construction and historical context
Use interpretation methods to uncover what the Holy Spirit intended to communicate through the Scriptures
Compare parallel passages and consider what other biblical authors say on the same subject
Avoid eisegesis by not reading personal preferences or preconceived notions into the text
Utilize various interpretive tools, such as word studies and argument-tracing, to gain a deeper understanding of the text
Level 3: Application
Determine the timeless truths and principles within the passage that are relevant to contemporary life
Identify specific actions or changes in thinking that should result from understanding the text
Develop practical ways to apply the passage's teachings to personal, spiritual, and relational aspects of life
Engage in meditation to keep the Bible's teachings at the forefront of one's mind and heart
